Wild Summer Garden

Before our
summer’s over,
before
the day
is done.
We can check
our options and
incidental fun,
what we
have sadly lost,
what we have
bravely won.

Things we
have missed
and things
we’ve seen,
places we’ve
never, ever been.
A garden
is a pretty
place, and
even weeds
might add
some grace.

I wonder
now and then
my role:
a lovely
fragile flower or
healthy
hardy weed.
But then I look
at all that
I have made
and see the
garden’s mostly
gone to seed.
