Nightfall

Nightfall

When night comes down
over this amazing lake,
drowning an autumn afternoon,
when I look for answers
to questions
nobody ever asked,
I look for light.

And light may be
snuffed out.
And so I said
we must get closer.
She looked at me
and though
I do not know
what vision
filled her eyes,
I just had to
forgive her.

So, did she see
my light?
Her eyes
shone brightly.
I sent the film.
No way to go,
not up.
And so I watch,
as artificial
light twinkles.
It makes me wonder.
