Sandstone Traces

Sandstone Traces

Iron in ashes,
(volcanic
eruptions)
made sand
hard
as eons
went by.

What would
he say,
if he said
anything,
if he said
any
sad words
at all?

Sand turned stone
and rains
came down.
Raindrops
smashed on
sandstone.

Sometimes
a drop
dislodged
a grain,
tore it from
sandstone,
washed it away.

Anything
said could be
misconstrued,
confused thoughts,
as any old man’s.

Words that
came out,
all muddled
no doubt,
could offend,
and hurt
feelings
somehow.

Iron in ashes,
ashes in mouths,
futures
impossibly sad.

Don’t mourn
all the things
that you
never owned,
when you’re
losing
what little
you had.
