Unless the Centre

Unless the Centre

unless the centre
      holds, there is
   no way to win.

   so beautiful
when she was
      just a girl.

      the centre
   of her world,
he had clay feet.

   she had a friend
just up the street,
   when they were
young, their lives
      were sweet.

but time went on,
they grew apart,
      and then she
   gave away
her heart.

and found a boy
she liked so well,
      she did not
think what games
   he played.

unless the centre
   holds, there is
   no way to win.

      so beautiful
when she was
   just a girl.

      the centre
   of her world,
he had clay feet.

  1. Oh Murray I feel the novel in this bittersweet verse….its wine, pressed grapes my friend, I shall sip.
If the center doesn’t hold, the opening line for all true love stories.

      1. You are welcome Murray. No it wouldn’t because it is a new word, and the dictionary hardly recognises pet names. Smilo is a pet word, who knows someday it will worm its way into the dictionary.
