Black Cottonwood

Black Cottonwood

a broken tree
still stands

along
the river's edge

a green and leafy
thing it was,

left from a
devastating storm,

that blew in
years ago.

white bones of
a ravaged tree,

standing by
a riverbank

a ghost of what
it used to be:

healthy growing
leafy tree.

today it is a ruin of
what it used to be.

(reminds me just
a little about
what i will be)
