Breaking on the Shore

something beautiful
when a wave breaks
      on a shore

out in the open ocean
      a wave might roll
a hundred miles or more

   spindrift blows water
off the top and rolls it over.

      watching pathetic we
look for a perfect wave

      showing movement
riding troughs and crests?

waves seem metaphoric
      in our lives
(we think as meteoric)?

watch a surface bubble rise
and fall as waves pass by.

      water: pushed up,
tumbles down waves.

a bubble can ride
   a surface wave,

or dive into a wave
      and be absorbed.
