Red Deer River Valley 2017a1

Red River Valley

      glaciers a mile high
   melted and water tried
to go from very very high
      to very low

gravity creates a need
   for water to flow
      down every hill

   mile high ice dams
represent an excuse for
   reasonable unease

anyone would know
      ice and water
piled a mile high,

      would some day
come splashing down.

ten thousand years ago
   or maybe even more,

   water found a way,
came crashing down.

gouged out a river bottom,
through ancient sandstone,

   washing out a world
   that once was there.

      we witness remnants
of a world we never saw.
