Incoming Tide

they said the tide
waits for no man

i can't say otherwise
(never saw it happen)

we saw it coming in
creeping up the rocks
in the harbour edge

(we sat in the window
telling our stories,
eating burgers
drinking coffee and beer)

light flashes in the dark sky
a thunder god screams

we are impressed (shaken)
and the cozy darkness
of the night becomes primal

a kind of nervousness
becomes realistic

wild lightning strikes
wherever it wants

there is no tame lightning
and we remember that
we are insignificant
