Pink Cabbagey Peony

Pink Cabbagey Peony

   her pink
   smile is
      amazing
it changes
everything

   she is a
beautiful
      colour!
never change
   a thing

gentle breezes
   stirred our
   peonies, and
they were fine.

   a nasty rain
came blasting
down. wet peonies
   prone on
      the earth.

   petals fell
   rotting away.
it's how it was,
just yesterday

Leading the Way

Leading the Way

one first bright
tulip showed us
colour,
under the
bright sun,
some buds
nearby
came next;
and it
was fun

sharp in
my lens
(my eyes
are not
so clear),
i look
in photo editors
and am amazed.
i do not see
things sharp
i fear,
on clear
or cloudy days

our first
tulip,
it has led
the way.
by now
its faded,
petals
fallen,
flowers
fade away.
soon we’ll see
mosquitoes come,
as insects
always do.
i guess,
before
too long,
we’ll get
a bite
or two

things come
and go,
and come again,
we prayed
for sunshine,
only got
some rain.
a virus
drove us
indoors and
we’ll stay,
its such
a pain,
but we
won’t fade
away
(we hope)

our lives
are changed;
we like
the way
it was
(for some
of us),
maybe that is
changed forever,
who’s to say,
we’ll make
it even
better

Grapes in the Garden

Grapes in the Garden

angels,
on assignment,
maybe,
they touch her
somewhere
that you
cannot see

prepare
to be amazed,
again
(each spring,
it’s come
around
just like
it’s always
done before)

angels,
on assignment,
maybe,
they touch her
somewhere
that you
cannot see

snowdrops,
crocuses,
daffodils
then
hyacinths bloom,
a race to
sunlight,
a joy to
the soul

angels,
on assignment,
maybe,
they touch her
somewhere
that you
cannot see

Intimate Details

inside her
innermost
self
her secret
intimate
heart
she is so
beautiful,
that passion
may be possible

rich purple,
dark spots,
gracefully
glorious,
we are made
for love
and loving.
only
the human part
of me
can enjoy
her beauty

some things,
are not
permitted,
and some
bliss is
beyond
possibility of
understanding,
in our universe

pleasures
that we feel
in loving
are so
wonderful,
somehow
we know
more and
better is
possible,
but pain
we have
never felt
may be
even worse

Rose Habitat

i grow them
in the garden:
roses, aphids,
ladybirds.
an entertaining
world, a place
to rest,
relax and think

roses are red
or pink,
yellow
or white.
aphids are
nasty things,
farmed by ants,
ladybirds are
carnivores and
save our plants

therapeutic:
gardening,
hands scooping
up the soil,
so rewarding
as we tend
green things,
blessed by
beauty and
fresh foods

i’d like to
share the
beauty,
lighten up
your day,
so someday,
when your world
comes back,
you can come
out to play

meanwhile,
we chafe
and weep
and wail.
it is
no fun
at all,
watching
the sun
cruise east
to west,
all the
stinking day

nothing lasts,
we might
survive
this plague
living in
cages we
create,
we stay away,
in case
you’re sick,
or i.

i grow them
in the garden:
roses, aphids,
ladybirds.
an entertaining
world, a place
to rest,
relax and think

Daffodils in Springtime

Daffodils in Springtime

daffodils
in springtime,
brighten up
the day,
a small
reminder
maybe,
there is
so much
to say

some of it
has meaning,
maybe,
some of it
profound,
we trust.
some is
like an
old car,
mostly
falling rust

a garden
is a
lovely thing,
like a
sweet old girl,
and growing
things are
precious too,
all around
the world

there is a
beauty in
us all,
something
special there,
we need to
let that
beauty rule
our lives,
don’t neglect
to care

you and i,
and everyone
are part of
something fine,
and yet
we need
humility
until the
end of time

it could come
quickly
for us all,
before we wish
we’re done,
and some of us
may wish
in vain,
perhaps,
for a bit more
simple fun

some, i see,
walking talking,
standing
on the street.
i know i may
not understand,
their rhythms
or their beat

daffodils
in springtime,
brighten up
the day,
a small
reminder
maybe,
there is
so much
to say

Colour Spectacle

Colour Spectacle

pink petals,
white petals,
green yellow
and black
centers,
so clear
to see

not as young
as she was,
and always
a beauty,
she’s getting
better
all the time

our bodies
change,
we learn
to behave
better,
to care
about what
we do to
other people

pink petals,
white petals,
green yellow
and black
centers,
so clear
to see

Colours of Springtime

sending you
a picture,
coloured
like an egg,
it doesn’t
help to
scream and
shout,
it doesn’t
help to beg

life may be
short,
too short
for some,
I’m whistling
in the dark,
we almost can’t
buy groceries,
we can’t go
to the park

we sit and watch
the tv set,
fools in
living rooms,
what is the worse,
the tv shows
and then
the summer’s ruin

this time
will pass
and we may last,
cocooned
much like
a bug,
I’d send
you more,
I’d cheer
you up,
and maybe
a send a hug

Key West Orchid

Five thousand
butterflies
flit past.
We duck
and bob
and weave.

Nestled in a
butterfly world,
an orchid shows
unfaded glory,
yet seems
to blend,
quietly
into the
background.

Still beautiful,
a mother sits,
beaming
with joy,
a butterfly,
rests on
her head.
Her daughter
photographs
pure happiness.
Wonderful like
butterflies!

We step
carefully
around them
and carry on.

More butterflies.
Outside the
butterfly world,
more butterflies.

Restored,
and painted
houses
line streets
in the old town.
Another delight.

Orange Lily

Orange Lily

Bright orange
lily!
Her gorgeous
colour,
dark eyes
watching
without
expression,
so I know
nothing.
How much
there is
to know!

Impossible
guessing
answers
to unspoken
questions.

Unknown thoughts
are safe.
We try
to keep
our silences.
I hope
so much
to cause
no pain.

We tiptoe
around each
other,
(this is
no dance)
saying
no words
that may
or may not
help.

I may deduce,
a sad
existence.
Pain that I
cannot heal.

I wish
that it was
so much better.
Sweet soul
in a beautiful
garden!
A gorgeous
butterfly,
flitting flower
to beautiful flower.
Bright orange
lily!
